At the beginning of your dental hygiene appointment, we will look at your medical history as well as your personal and social history. We’ll likely ask about your smoking and alcohol consumption. Plus, we’ll enquire about your medical conditions or any medications that you are taking. These things are important as they can affect your oral health and care and other concerns related to your teeth.

After knowing and assessing your medical history, we’ll proceed to a thorough examination of your mouth to check the current condition of your teeth and gums. We’ll also include an examination of your head and neck for signs of oral cancer. And if we detect a serious problem, we’ll immediately refer you to a specialist.

And once we’re done assessing and examining your teeth, we’ll start cleaning them. Our cleaning procedures include stain, plaque, and tartar removal, teeth polishing, fluoride application, and sealant placement when necessary. We’ll remove tartar and other stains that might be difficult to remove with just simple brushing.

All our dental cleaning procedures are performed to reinforce your mouth’s hygiene and maintain good general health. The whole process, in general, is comfortable. However, it can be a bit difficult when there’s dental sensitivity due to gum disease or tooth decay, you’re experiencing jaw pain due to temporomandibular disorders, and there are long periods between cleanings.
